Early Childhood Principal

Jennifer Gutowsky

Jennifer Gutowsky has been the Early Childhood Principal at The Shlenker School since January 2003. She brings with her 17 years of experience with children under the age of five.

Prior to coming to Shlenker, Jennifer was the Coordinator of the Child Development Programs at San Jacinto College North located in Houston. This included teaching college courses in the Child Development Department as well as directing the Child Development Laboratory School that served children ages 3 months through five years of age. The Laboratory School, like Shlenker's Early Childhood Program, is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children's (NAEYC) National Academy of Early Childhood Programs.

Jennifer also worked for Texas Children's Hospital as a Child Life Specialist, primarily in the Hematology/Oncology areas. Her role in this position was to provide developmentally appropriate play experiences to support children's development during hospital or clinic visits.

Ms. Gutowsky received her Bachelor's degree in Child Development from The University of Texas and her Master of Education degree from The University of Houston.

Jennifer is actively involved in many early childhood organizations. She is serving her second year as secretary and regional board member of the Early Childhood Educators of Reform Judaism (ECE-RJ), an affiliate of the Union of Reform Judaism (URJ). She is the Past President of the Houston Area Association for the Education of Young Children (HAAEYC) andwas thechair of the Accreditation Committee. She is a member of ECE-RJ, HAAYEC, TAEYC, SECA, and NAEYC. Jennifer is also involved in a variety of community initiatives.

She is currently working with The Children's Museum of Houston as a member of the Advisory Committee for the 2006 expansion project for the Tot*Spot Exhibit, an exhibit targeting young children six months to three years. Jennifer is a member of The Children's Museum of Houston's Award Committee for the Martel Early Childhood Educator Award. Toremain current in the field of early childhood, Jennifer is an adjunct professor at the Central Campus of Houston Community College where she teaches in the Child Development and Education Department.

Jennifer's specialization in early childhood development has enabled her to define for Shlenker an exceptional age-appropriate program that is a hallmark for all early childhood programs.
