Speaker Series
The Shlenker School is proud to partner with various educational programs such as the Houston Zoo, Moody Gardens, Gymboree, several consular corps, and well known guest authors and Holocaust survivors to bring additional learning opportunities to our students. Throughout the year Shlenker also hosts several guest speakers, such as Wendy Mogul and Annie Cater, who address timely topics for our parents.
For the last several years The Shlenker School has hosted many well known authors from all over the country. They present a wide range of experiences and share their love of writing with the students. The students learn the sources of their creative inspirations, their artwork and illustrations, and the process involved in writing books. These authors share with students and staff diversity in genre and the variety of techniques they use in writing.
Students in kindergarten through fifth grade students have enjoyed well-known authors including Herman Parish, Jack Gantos, Susan Stevens Crummel, Peter Catalanotto, singing zoologist Lucas Miller, David Swartz, Karen Levine, David Wisniewski, Gail Gibbons, and Jose Aruego. These rich experiences enable students to flourish and develop as lifelong readers and writers.
