Good Morning Shlenker

Good Morning Shlenker is designed to give the 5th grade students an opportunity to work on their speaking and presentation skills as well as a sense of ownership in their traditions. Each week, three students are chosen to lead the school in Morning Exercise. These exercises consist of singing the Shema and V'ahavta prayers, the Pledge of Allegiance and a selected patriotic song. On Jewish holidays we add the Hallel prayer for “thanks” and “praise." On Friday mornings we include the Israeli Anthem, Ha Tikvah,”The Hope.” Each day at the end of morning exercises one of the students reads a thought for the day, riddle or joke.

This year we are experimenting with a few new additions. On Monday mornings, a few minutes will be devoted to a moral lesson from the week’s Torah portion. This will give each student the opportunity to learn and put in to action each lesson, whether at school or at home. On Friday mornings, students that would like may present their thoughts on the moral topic of the week. Another change in the works is to have volunteers help lead the prayers. This new addition, open to all grades, will allow the younger students to participate in a leadership role too.

My child has just blossomed at The Shlenker School; we couldn't be happier.
