Student Services

At The Shlenker School, we recognize that every child’s learning journey is unique.

Our Student Services are designed to support, enrich, and empower students across all stages of their academic development. With a proactive approach and a dedicated team of specialists, we provide targeted support through two core programs: the Literacy Lab and LEAP (Learning Excellence through Accelerated Paths).

The Shlenker School

Literacy Lab

The Literacy Lab offers individualized and small-group instruction for students in Kindergarten through Fifth Grade who benefit from additional support in reading.

Once a formal diagnosis of dyslexia is made by a diagnostician they are able to participate in Reading by Design. Utilizing a research-based, multi-sensory approach aligned with the science of reading, our trained specialist focuses on foundational skills such as phonological awareness, decoding, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.

Students are referred to the Literacy Lab through teacher observations, classroom assessments, and benchmark screenings. Our goal is to intervene early, support skill mastery, and instill confidence as students build the critical literacy skills they need for lifelong learning.

Catapult Program

In addition to LEAP, the Shlenker School offers the Catapult program in partnership with the Houston Independent School District (HISD). This program is designed for students who qualify for additional support based on zoning requirements and demonstrated deficiencies in reading and math performance.

LEAP (Learning Excellence through Accelerated Paths)

LEAP is a support and enrichment program for math or reading that serves students in 3rd - 5th Grade in the Elementary division.

LEAP is designed to ensure students receive challenging concepts or are ready to explore more advanced material. Students that participate must score an 8 or 9 stanine on standardized testing to participate in the program.

Support may be provided through in-class differentiation, small-group instruction, or individualized intervention. LEAP also includes collaboration with classroom teachers, monitoring of student progress, and ongoing communication with families.

Together, the Literacy Lab, Catapult, and LEAP ensure that Shlenker students are not only supported but celebrated for their growth, effort, and individual learning profiles. Through these programs, we uphold our commitment to meeting students where they are and helping them reach their fullest potential.
