Uniform Guidelines

The following uniform pieces MUST be purchased from Lands’ End: plaid jumpers, plaid skirts, plaid skorts, white or navy polo shirts with long or short sleeves, white oxford shirts, short sleeve navy polo dress, and navy cardigans.

All these items MUST have the Shlenker logo.

Hooded zippered sweatshirts jackets and other outerwear MUST be purchased from the Shlenker School Store.

Navy/khaki pants, navy/khaki shorts, and navy/khaki skorts, may be purchased from any retailer provided styles and colors are identical to those at Lands’ End.

Additional Notes: All shorts, jumpers, skirts, dresses, and skorts should be no shorter than 3” above the knee.

Below is additional guidance about the Elementary Dress Code. This information can also be found in our Student–Parent Handbook located on the Parent Portal of the school’s website.

1. The Shlenker School requires all Elementary students to wear the proper uniform daily. Parents will be notified if students are not appropriately dressed and may be called to bring the proper attire to school in order for a student to remain in class.
2. The SPA provides a free Community Closet. Please contact The SPA Chairperson for more information.
3. No logo other than The Shlenker School logo is permitted on any item of clothing, including socks. Shlenker logos are available on polo shirts and oxford cloth shirts, jackets, cardigans, and dresses.
4. On cold weather days, students may wear navy leggings or tights with their uniforms. Leggings must extend below the knee; all socks must be solid white.
5. At all times, including free-dress days, students must wear P.E. appropriate shoes with closed toes and closed heels. Platform shoes, shoes with heels higher than ¾ inch, sandals, and Crocs are not permissible.
6. All shoes requiring laces must include the laces and be snugly tied.
7. Shoes that make any kind of noises or that have wheels or lights are not permitted.
8. Inside the school building, students may wear cardigans or hooded zippered sweatshirts jackets with the school logo.
9. Students may wear non-logo outerwear OUTSIDE when it is cold.
10. Students in Grades 2-5 must wear a brown belt with their shorts or long pants on Dress Uniform days.
11. Students may wear white tank tops or plain white undershirts with uniform shirts and blouses.
12. On free dress days, students must wear clothing that is appropriate to school. No halter tops, bare shoulders, backs, or midriffs are allowed. Likewise, no short shorts or cut-off pants are allowed. T-shirts must be worn under sleeveless sports jerseys and tank tops with large arm openings. Clothing should not have inappropriate slogans.
13. All students’ hair must be neat and well-groomed. Students should present a neat and clean appearance at all times. Dress uniform shirts must be tucked in at all times.
14. Mondays are Spirit Days at Shlenker! Each year, all students (Infant–5th Grade) receive a complimentary Shlenker Spirit t-shirt, generously provided by the Shlenker Parents Association, and are encouraged to wear it on Mondays. Elementary students (Kindergarten–5th Grade) may wear the current year Spirit t-shirt on Mondays only, paired with regular uniform bottoms. Spirit shirts are not permitted on other days of the week or on Mondays when a dress uniform is required.
15. All students in PreK-4 through Fifth Grade are required to wear an official Shlenker Field Trip t-shirt for school-sponsored field trips. Each PreK-4 and new K–5 student will receive one complimentary shirt before their first year at Shlenker. After that, families are responsible for purchasing replacements as needed. T-shirts must be ordered through the Shlenker School Store. Please order early to allow time for shipping, as the school does not keep extras on hand. Be sure your child has a shirt before the start of school and upcoming field trips.
16. Shlenker is proud to be recognized as a No Place for Hate® school by the Anti-Defamation League. To celebrate, K–5 students may wear a No Place for Hate t-shirt with approved uniform bottoms on Wednesdays (unless a dress uniform is required). New K–5 students receive one complimentary shirt before their first year. Families are responsible for purchasing replacements as needed through the Shlenker School Store. Please order early to allow time for shipping.
